A new technology innovation centre is to open in the Midlands

A new technological innovation centre has been set up in Leicestershire through an ambitious public-private partnership, with the aim of bolstering job growth across the county and helping to deliver new business for the region's high-tech firms.

The new Advanced Technology Innovation Centre at Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park will provide a range of flexible working spaces for tech businesses in Leicestershire, including workshops, labs and studios.

It is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and also received £2 million in government investment as part of the setup process; the new innovation centre will aim to bolster local businesses and provide a welcome boost the regional economy - delivering a considerable payback for the taxpayer in the process.

Overall, it is hoped that the new centre of excellence for technology firms will help in the delivery of upwards of 750 new jobs in the coming years.

Business minister Anna Soubry stated: "Leicester and Leicestershire are vital components in the Midlands engine for growth and that is why we are backing plans to boost investment and create more jobs for people. I want to see the local firms and community leaders, who know the area best, in the driving seat for these plans.

"The Advanced Technology Innovation Centre at Loughborough University is a great example of the support available for small businesses that want to grow and innovate in Leicestershire."

It is not just in the Midlands that the government hopes to better engage with members of technology sector though, as investment in developing increased technological innovation across many other parts of the country is now also in the pipeline.

Now a template for further tech sector support in other areas, the new Advanced Technology Innovation Centre will be holding an Open House event on November 5th aimed at highlighting how the facilities on offer at the site can benefit businesses not just in Leicestershire, but up and down the UK.

One of several university Science and Enterprise Parks across the country, businesses spanning the breadth of the UK's technology industries are encouraged to find out more about how these facilities can bolster levels of research and provide a welcome boost to local economies in the years ahead.
