Next month will witness the introduction of the National Living Wage

Businesses of all sizes need to ensure it is not just their accounting departments that are fully informed when it comes to the introduction of the new National Living Wage on April 1st - staff too need to be aware of changes in their pay packet.

According to a new survey carried out by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, almost one-third (32 per cent) do not regularly check their payslips to ensure they are receiving the correct amount each month.

However, this is a habit that could lead to thousands of Britons missing out on a welcome pay rise in the very near future.

More than one million people across the UK will benefit from an increase in their annual salary through the introduction of the National Living Wage in the coming weeks, but many workers remain unaware of the fact that this could be the case.

Stewart Gee, head of information and guidance at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, said: "Eligible workers should check what they are entitled to under these new changes, and employers need to ensure that they are ready too."

The National Living Wage of £7.20 will replace the existing National Minimum Wage of £6.70 for all workers over the age of 25 from the start of next month.

Companies of all sizes must therefore be prepared to implement this change, with full details regarding eligibility requirements and the responsibilities of businesses available online via the government's Living Wage website.
