The impact of the EU referendum on business confidence across the UK has been stark, with many firms holding off on key decisions in the wake of uncertainty that the Leave vote has caused.

However, new research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) and reported by has shown that delaying key decisions simply because the future is uncertain is something to be actively avoided.

According to the CIPD's latest UK and Ireland Market Outlook report, hiring intentions have diminished slightly during the last three months, falling from 40 per cent of firms expecting to take on new staff at the start of the quarter, to just 36 per cent now.

Rahi Daneshmand, founder of UK beverages manufacturer Virtue Drinks, told the news provider that the result of the referendum right now is "irrelevant", as businesses need to ensure they are focusing on the present to ensure they are well-prepared for whatever it is the future has to throw at them.

Mr Daneshmand explained: "Even though our nation has voted to leave the EU, our business still needs to grow and keep momentum. To do so, we need to grow our team, as our company will only be as good as the team driving it.

"As a small business there is only so much one person can do and taking this into account I need to hire in sales and marketing."

It is a situation echoed by many small businesses across the country and one that the CIPD believes will colour key management decisions for many firms in the months ahead.

A significant slowdown in UK recruitment is therefore now unlikely, something that will come as a pleasant surprise to many business leaders who had feared this would be the case in the run-up to and immediate aftermath of the referendum.
