The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has announced the creation of a new inter-ministerial group that will aim to bolster business engagement across the UK in the wake of the recent EU referendum decision.

With the vote to leave the EU having caused considerable uncertainty among many of the nation's business operators in recent days - a situation that is expected to continue for the foreseeable future - the BIS believes this new group will create a useful conduit for companies seeking answers to their concerns.

Set up as part of the Cabinet Office's new EU Referendum Unit, the group will meet monthly to discuss the most pressing issues facing UK firms in the wake of Brexit.

Secretary of state for business Sajid Javid commented: "Now more than ever, businesses need certainty so it's vital that the government maintains an open and continuous dialogue. We must work together to make sure the world knows that the UK is still open for business and remains an attractive place with which to trade and invest.

"Working with ministers across government, I will make sure businesses have the information they need and work with them to identify opportunities as they open up."

Mr Javid will chair the new inter-ministerial group. He will be joined by several other prominent members of the government, including the energy secretary, environment secretary, culture secretary, defence secretary, foreign secretary, chief secretary to the Treasury and the trade and investment minister.
